Hello Readers,
Most women I know are overwhelmed by their current commitments and lifestyles, and they all ask me the same question. How can adding more activities to your day, as dinacharya, be the solution for efficiently managing what you already have on your list?
The answer to this contradiction lies in shifting the focus from “how can you make time for self-care to why should you make time for self-care.”
Here are some simple and effective Dinacharya sets, extracted from my recent conversation with Salila Sukumaran to kickstart your self-care journey.
- Wake up before sunrise. Allow yourself to feel grateful for everything, as you start your day. Wash your face, hands and legs to release all the old energy and refresh your senses.
- Step out into some fresh air to align with the external environment. Later, make yourself a hot drink to kickstart your metabolism, and have a smooth bowel movement.
- Make a habit of examining your tongue everyday, and alter your habits accordingly. Once you brush your teeth, scrape your tongue to remove toxins and do oil pulling.
- Engage in some shamana activities to calm yourself. Apply ghee to your eyes and nose to rejuvenate and nourish yourself.
- Apply oil and gently massage your body. Engage in gentle exercises to help your joints and take a good shower using udwarthanam powders.
- Make sure you have a full and healthy meal including grains, lentils, legumes, fruits, spices, oils and seeds everyday. Also, ensure you have a gap of three hours between your meals. Wash your hands, face, legs and feet before and after eating to release energy periodically.
- Make sure you finish your dinner within 3 hours prior to sleeping. Go for a small walk after eating. End your day with Padha Abhayangam – foot massage and ensure you have a deep sleep.
